IntroductionWe will help you get the top ten positions in major search engines for your chosen key words. And one of the biggest secrets in order to achieve that is right here on this page. Please don't think we are stating the obvious but choosing the right keyword or phrase this is the single biggest influence you will make on getting targeted customers to your site, by being found in search engines. We will help you select the best keywords but what are the "best" keywords? Why are keywords important? When your potential customers use search engines, keywords are the words and phrases they type into the search box while looking for products and services like yours. The best keywords are those words and phrases commonly typed in by your potential customers, but which aren't used much on your competitor's websites. In other words, if you optimise your pages for keywords your potential customers use a lot, but your competitor's haven't thought of, those customers will end up finding your website-not your competitor's! Web Design for Today understands this key fact, and has adopted this idea on many successful websites. But here's the problem...how do you know for sure which are the best keywords and phrases for your website? Guessing? If you attempt to optimise your pages for words and phrases that are just your best guesses, you are losing potential customers for sure and therefore wasting time and valuable money. |

What are the best keywords? To make sense of the time and money you spend on search engine optimisation, you need to KNOW that the keywords you use will deliver results. So, how do you do that? We use dedicated software. We use a database that is based on over 300 million keywords and phrases that people have used over the previous 90 days. (In other words, there is no "guessing". Everything is calculated on the keywords millions of people have ACTUALLY typed into search engines). A well-optimised web page gets you a much higher listing in the major search engines like Google, Yahoo! and MSN. And yes, being in the top ten listings will get you many more qualified visitors than if you are somewhere on the second page or lower. |

| You have probably heard this before, but we believe that if you are not on the 1st page of the search engine results, you may as well not have a website at all because people just do not look any further than the first page. All this sound very daunting, but relax, choosing the best keywords is done for free by Web Design for Today and its all part of the service. The process (choosing your keywords)No one better than you understands you business or requirement, so we will work in conjunction with each other for relevant information. We will initially request that you create a list of keywords or phrases, as many as you want and the more the merrier that are totally relevant to your business. For example, if your business was environmental then these would be appropriate:- Planning, Strategic planning, Environmental planning, Local government planners etc. The keywords you will end up using will not necessarily be the ones you would prefer to use! This sounds a bit condescending but there is a very good reason for this and we will explain the reason in a moment. The reason we need lots of keywords is because each of your pages will be optimised for a different keyword. This will ensure that your website as a whole is busy working to capture people typing in these keywords and to maximise your chances of getting visitors. Rejecting and Selecting your keywordsOnce you send us the list, we have dedicated software that analyses each of those words and phrases for the “keyword effectiveness”. Each keyword is given a “KEi” “keyword effective index” number. There is no guessing, it is all very scientific. There are many secrets to SEO but we will share this one with you: - You must have a NICHE keyword for each of your pages to get ranked high for those keywords. Our definition of a NICHE keywordThat is a keyword that is in BIG DEMAND i.e. a keyword that is typed into search engines many times, but there is LITTLE SUPPLY, i.e. not many WebPages around the world delivering relevant information for that keyword. Our software can analyse each keyword or phrase for the times it is typed into Google versus the amount of competing web pages around the world delivering relevant pages for that keyword. For example if I had a CAD computer aided design business, I might be tempted to optimise my website with the keyword “design” as it would be 100% relevant. If I perform a keyword analysis it returns a KEi value of 0.028 A poor keyword is between 0 and 1 A good keyword is between 10 and 100 An exceptional keyword (also called a gift) is 100 and beyond The keyword “design” gets typed into Google 350 times in 24 hours globally. There are no less than 32 million web pages around the world all wanting to get ranked in the top 10 for that keyword. They all can't be in the top 10. We stand no chance of competing with that keyword, hence the poor Kei value. We had chosen many keywords! The keyword “cad design service” however is also relevant to my business! My software returned a Kei value of 20 for this keyword. Although this keyword only gets typed into Google 22 times in 24 hours, it is only competing with 619 pages around the world with that exact phrase. I would be confident to get my website in the top 10 for that key phrase. Bottom line:We would sooner have a 100% potential of getting 22 visits a day than 0% chance of getting 350 a day! Other factors to consider!Search engines have to decide what web pages to display at no 1, 2 3 etc so it has to decide what pages are MOST RELEVANT for the keyword someone typed in. It does that by “scoring” or “giving points” for lots of different criterion that helps it decide relevance. Some criteria are more important than others. There are two basic criteria: On Page and Off Page. We are concentrating on the “on page” at the moment and will elaborate on “off page” a little latter. Basically, “on page” is totally in your control. Not so straightforward with “off page”. No one knows for sure how many points it gives for each criterion (Google keeps this a very guarded secret) but us webmasters have a good idea. Another important criterion is that your chosen keyword be part of your URL or web address. In this case my website would be www.cad-design-service.co.uk (if it was available). If it was not available I would make it available just by adding more info that wouldn't harm its ranking like www.cad-design-services.my-business-name.co.uk. By adding my company name I made it unique but still relevant for that keyword. “Keyword density”Another criterion is “keyword density” This is a specific percentage Google looks for in terms of how many times a keyword is used on a page compared with all the words on the page. Google decides if a page attains this percentage it must be relevant. If less than that percentage it's less relevant and so on. If it is a much bigger percentage it could actually ban the webpage for spamming and would not show in the results page at all. Spamming is a miss use of a keyword, purposely using the word excessively for the intention to get a higher ranking. Google's robot is no fool. “Q and A”(Q) I already have a URL (web address) so it won't have the keyword as part of the URL (A) The 1 st option is to not worry too much if you keep the original URL. There are many factors that we can optimise for. Not optimising all of them won't prevent you from achieving a high rank. You probably wont see No.1 position but will get ranked high anyway. The 2 nd option is to create another URL specifically including your keyword. (Q) What about all my stationary with the old URL on it? (A) If you keep your original URL we can add a redirect to it. In other words, if someone types in your old URL they would automatically get transferred to the new webpage. It can be done in a clandestine fashion so people are oblivious, or it can state “redirecting to our new website” and then it happens. You can introduce your new website address on your emails in addition to the old one. Over time, phase out the old website URL by only introducing new customers to the new website. The only price to pay is the additional server and URL costs. (Q) What are the costs of running a Website? (A) Apart from the design cost you effectively hire a URL for as little as £2.99 a year for a .co.uk and up to £8.99 for a dotcom. Hosting is approx £4.82 per month. This is effectively for the hire of the server / web space. These prices are approximate only and differ depending on the provider. |
